Andy Hopper 2007 - 2008 Andy Hopper 2007 - 2008

Born in Beverley, Yorkshire, President Andy Hopper moved to the city of York when he was seven. After finishing secondary school he attended a technical college for a year before serving as an apprentice for five years as a Fitter and Turner with a firm making Automotive Shock Absorbers.

Andy left the automotive industry to join a large civil engineering company doing highway maintenance, a job that took him all over the UK and into Europe and Scandinavia.

Andy met Wren, a Nurse, while visiting a sick friend in hospital.

They Married in 1977 and have two children, Louise and Peter.

The family moved to Australia in 1988, settling in Thornlie. The kids attended Yale Primary School; Wren continued Nursing and Andy worked for a company making mobile cranes.

After leaving the crane company, Andy went on to work for a company making Solar Hot water systems. Initially employed to look at better methods of production to improve quality and quantity, the company decided to change their work practices, putting production out to contract. Taking on a variety of work in the factory, Andy found working for himself a lot more enjoyable.

After working under contract for a few years, Andy went into a partnership in a company manufacturing industrial fibre glass tanks.

Andy was invited to join The Rotary Club of Thornlie in 1997 after daughter Louise was selected as a Rotary Exchange Student.

Andy has thoroughly enjoyed serving on all committees within the club, especially as Sergeant. He feels the best part of Thornlie Rotary Club is the warmth and friendship of all the members and their partners.
