THORNLIE ROTARIANS ASSIST
KANYANA WILDLIFE REHABILITATION GROUP
On Saturday 5 December, members
of the Thornlie Rotary Club attended the Kanyana Wildlife Rehabilitation group’s
new headquarters at Bickley and handed over the keys to a renovated cottage to
be used for visitor accommodation by Kanyana.
Thornlie Rotary President Mike
Raspa and Kanyana Chair, June Butcher in the refurbished premises.
The Thornlie Rotarians had spent
about twelve months carrying out extensive renovations and repairs to the old
cottage which forms part of the new base for the Kanyana group at the old
Paxwold Guides facility in the Bickley valley.
For over 25 years Kanyana has
been providing advice, hands on specialised care and expertise to ensure sick,
injured and orphaned animals are given a second chance.
Project
Manager, Ray Smith presents the keys to Kanyana Chairperson, June Butcher
on behalf of
Thornlie Rotary.
In handing over the keys to the
refurbished premises, Thornlie Rotary President, Mike Raspa congratulated
Kanyana on the wonderful work undertaken by volunteers in caring for our
animals. Mr Raspa said that it was a pleasure for one volunteer organisation, in
Rotary, to be able to assist another volunteer group with such a great community
project.
The refurbished cottage will be
used by local, interstate and overseas veterinary volunteers helping at the
centre’s hospital and care facilities.
The total cost of the project was
estimated at $15,000 and involved several hundred
man hours of voluntary labour by the Club.
Mr Raspa said that the Thornlie
Rotary Club was always interested in worthwhile community projects within the
local area and would continue to seek partnerships with local organisations and
individuals.
