I have thoroughly enjoyed this year as president. The warmth shown to Wren and myself from you all has been very special.
Our club took on many projects this year, some old favourites and some new ones, there are to many for me to individualise. We can see from the director’s reports what we have achieved this year.
My sincere thanks go to all the board members for their commitment to the club, to make sure they spent wisely, and in the Rotary spirit. Special thanks go to Vin Rogers for stepping into the breach as director for New Generations.
To all the members’ thankyou for your support, it’s the members that make a good club and we have a good club.
I would like to thank our partners for your support throughout the year, at meetings, socially and bring and buy.
We at Thornlie are very lucky to have on tap such a lot of Rotary knowledge , as president I have many times sought advice, no matter who I asked, help was always on hand, I thank you all.
Were would we be without a good sergeant? Collin Waters filled that role to perfection. I would like to also thank Collin for all his work as fundraising and risk management work. Bring and buy is a week in week out job, Quite often a pain in the.............
Secretary Doug Parker kept us all well informed in a most professional manner, thank you Doug for keeping us in order.
John Mitchell thank you for being our assistant treasurer looking after all the day to day duties making sure our meetings were financially organised and drawing cheques when necessary.
Treasurer Wayne Brouwer thanks for continuing to look after the accounts.
Again our club Auditor was Mr Bernard Hoey who once again offered his services to the club at no charge.
Lloyd Dungy once again took on the job of social organiser and came up with a mixed bag of entertainment from casserole night to ten pin bowling to theatre nights to movie nights and an exhibition well done Lloyd, I know its hard to please everyone, but from all of us who did join in, thank you we had a great time.
Mike Raspa put together our club program, thanks Mike for a host of interesting and enjoyable speakers.
This year our club got of to a great start by being the first host club to the visiting GSE team from district 1040 Yorkshire. Thank you PDG Frank Keays for all your organising to make their time spent with us so enjoyable for us and for the team. After all they were just another load of Poms .Worst they were from Yorkshire, short arms and deep pockets!
The week could not have happened without the host families, many thanks to,
Sylvia and Frank Keays.
Sylvia and Vin Rogers.
Lois and Ray Smith.
Yvonne and Ron Bradock.
Faye and Ron Bradborn.
And to all the drivers who ferried them around and generally looked after them thank you.
PDG Ron Sloan has spent thousands of man hours on our clubs literacy program, his tenacity astounds most of us, as we go to print sadly we have not got over the last couple of hurdles.
This year we had the pleasure of awarding three Paul Harris Fellows.
Lois Smith, Bernie O’Dea and Bevan Baskerville,
Lois has given over Twenty years support to Ray, both at district and club level , Lois has always being there for the club, at partners nights, social functions and all those years at bring and buy. Thank you Lois from all at Thornlie.
Bernie and Bevan, two long standing members both with nearly twenty years service at Thornlie, they have served in most roles as directors, Bernie has also been club secretary and Bevan was our club President in 2002/3. They are what Thornlie is all about, they are good friends who are greatly respected by the rest of the club, willing to help and get quietly on with what needs doing. Thank you both.
Thank you all for making this year very enjoyable, I have had tremendous support, no more than from my wife Wren.
Wren and I wish all the best to Ron and Faye in their year leading this great club.
Andy Hopper,
